Consistency & Reliability

Consistency is the bedrock of reliability, allowing a team to develop trust, loyalty and a feeling of safety under their leader. But without discipline, these elements fall apart, leaving everyone directionless. An outstanding leader maintains appropriate discipline at all times, setting a clear example with his or her own actions.

Individuals know where they stand with great leaders, and thus the purpose, direction and values of the organisation remain relatively constant. Where shifts in direction occur, they are gradual and carefully managed. Moreover, the leader remains predictable in a positive sense, allowing the team to feel confident about their actions and enabling the organisation to focus on key issues rather than managing the leader’s behaviour or second-guessing stances and decisions. Stability of mood is a key factor here.
